This gives you an idea of what the system would look like, but more importantly, you can see what the customer would see in our proposals. They calculate tax incentives, depreciation (if the site includes a home office or commercial building), rising costs of electricity based on historical data, exact hours of sunlight measured at each corner of the roof for the entire year, and much more. These packages are reduced in price for builders and allow for a margin of 2-10% to be added, depending on the price point of the home. The publicity that will be generated during the next 2-3 years as the first builders start to include solar packages in Virginia is worth far more than the margin of profit. In Florida, California, New Jersey, and other states, subdivisions which offer solar on each home are very news worthy and the attention has started trends that will not slow down any time soon. You can be a trend setter too, just offer our packages as an option to homebuyers. By simply offering these packages, you will improve your “green friendly” appearance and it could help to close sales that otherwise might have gone to a competitor. I have heard countless stories of people moving 2 hours away to live in a “green” subdivision with solar systems on each home in Florida and California. New state incentives are expected in the next year or so which could bring greater savings to your customers and further increase your margins. The 30% Federal Tax Credit (based on total cost of system) is a huge incentive that just became available with the recent “bailout” package. This used to have a maximum cap of $2000, but the cap was removed. Now the customers can get $8000-30,000 in tax credits!
